On this day in 1933, the 21st Amendment to the US Constitution was ratified, ending a 14-year prohibition of alcohol in the United States. Curiously, eight state legislatures have still not formally ratified this amendment:
Nebraska
Kansas
Mississippi
Oklahoma
Louisana
North & South Dakota
Georgia
These same eight states voted red in the 2008 presidential election.
