Mine was red with a chrome shock, but you get the idea. Strictly caveman shit. Even at 12 I was smart enough to realize the pogo effect of that 6-pound coil sucked up every ounce of pedal power my spindleshanks could generate. To improve straight line acceleration, I replaced the shock with a 7/8-inch seatpost drilled on both ends. Mountain bikes wouldn't get rear suspension until 1990. Take that, Horst Leitner…
